Job Description

Digital Designer (UX/UI)

(Websites, digital platforms, apps, campaigns and interactive experiences)

Salary: £32-36k depending on experience

Location: Farringdon, London

ABOUT US

We are a 23-strong creative agency specialising in telling stories that improve people’s health. We create engaging and evocative content across all media and apply our creative thinking to everything from worldwide disease awareness campaigns for big pharma companies down to small conference stands for biotech start-ups. We work together to craft healthcare stories through branding, video and digital experiences that excite and inspire. Most importantly, everything we do is about improving human health: we love knowing that our work improves the lives of people we’ll never meet.

DESCRIPTION

We're seeking a full-time creative Digital Designer (UX/UI) with around 2-4 years' professional experience, ideally within an agency environment, to join our team in London.

This role would particularly suit someone who has built strong foundations in digital design and is ready to take the next step in their career, taking on more ownership while continuing to learn and develop alongside our Digital Director, Art Director and development team.

Ideally, you will have recent experience in a design position working across a range of digital projects, including websites, user interfaces and online campaigns.

You should have a strong interest in the world of digital and be curious about how digital design is evolving. We want you to bring your creativity and ideas to the team while developing your skills across UX, UI, interaction, accessibility, systems and digital processes.

We're looking for someone with a strong eye for design and a portfolio that demonstrates attention to detail through layout, hierarchy, typography, responsive design, interactive states and overall user experience.

Experience working with components and design systems in Figma is important. You do not need to have mastered every part of the digital design process yet, but you should be comfortable working within structured design systems and keen to develop your skills in creating and maintaining them.

Fluent in Figma and familiar with Adobe Creative Cloud applications such as InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. Experience with After Effects would be an advantage.

You will have the opportunity to learn and evolve your design skills while working on a wide variety of projects, from large-scale websites and digital platforms to interactive tools, campaigns and more experimental digital experiences.

The right candidate should be inspired to be part of a highly creative and driven team striving to break new ground in creating innovative, interactive and engaging digital experiences. You will get support and training as well as encouragement to express your thoughts and ideas.

If you have a strong portfolio and you're looking for an opportunity to flex your creative muscles while developing into a more rounded digital designer, we'd love to hear from you.

This is a full-time role based primarily in our office in Farringdon, with the option to work from home up to two days a week. Please do not apply to this role if you’re seeking a work-from-home-only position. Our office is located on the 3rd floor of a building, reachable via steps to the front door and a lift. We seek and encourage applicants from all backgrounds to ensure we get the best talent on our team.

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will have the following skills:

  • Creatively inspire and challenge us through your UI designs
  • A strong design eye for design and brands
  • Enjoy keeping up with the latest innovative designs
  • A technical mindset with a good understanding of the wider digital experience
  • Highly organised with a great attention to detail
  • A good understanding of UX/UI design and the ability to use research, audience insight and evidence to help inform design decisions
  • Experience creating sitemaps, clear and intuitive information architecture, wireframes and prototypes
  • Experience working with components and design systems in Figma, with an interest in developing these skills further
  • Proficient in Figma and other web-based design tools
  • A good understanding of responsive design and accessibility, including designing towards WCAG AA standards
  • The ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects
  • General knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite apps such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
  • Ability and willingness to collaborate with developers, our Digital Director and Art Director as they advise on and feed into the technical and creative aspects of projects
  • A thoughtful interest in the current benefits and limits of AI tools within design software and our workflow. We use AI where it genuinely enhances the work or improves our process, rather than simply using it for the sake of it

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience creating or working with 3D assets for interactive and WebGL-based experiences
  • Creating or supporting brand design
  • Ability to create animations in Adobe After Effects
  • Knowledge and experience producing designs for interfaces such as sales aids, interactive infographics, hubs and other novel digital platforms. We'd love to see examples of these things if you have them

WHAT WE OFFER

  • A fun and collaborative team to work with
  • An environment where we’re always looking to push boundaries and produce the best outcome
  • A hybrid structure: we’re in our studio 3 days per week with flexibility on your working hours, with 10-4 being our core hours
  • 24 days holiday per year, on top of bank holidays, with an extra day for each 2 years of service
  • Annual team away days
  • Full health and emergency dental cover
  • Structured discovery days to expand your skillset
  • 5% employer pension contribution
  • A company that cares about making a positive impact, offsetting our carbon footprint and donating to charities
  • Team socials
  • Free coffee and snacks in the office

For the kind of work we typically do, see https://uclpartners.com/, which we built from scratch. Although some of our projects are at a smaller scale, the site is a fair reflection of the level of complexity and subject matter we work with as a healthcare agency.

You will be working with the Digital Director, Account Director, design team and development team. We are a tightly-knit group and encourage ideas and collaboration across departments.

You'll need to have a portfolio of work that showcases your skills, thinking and interests in design. Please make it easy for us to access this portfolio within your application.

If this sounds like your kind of thing, then you're probably our kind of person. And if you’ve read this far down the ad, we invite you to put ‘THOROUGH’ in capitals somewhere in your application letter. First word is fine!

How to apply

Please apply via email to our digital lead James Nash (jamesn@gig.health) with:

  • Portfolio
  • A brief cover letter explaining who you are, why you're interested in the role and why you think you're suited to it
  • A CV

Successful applicants will be invited to a 1-hour interview at our Central London offices. At this interview we can show you some of our work, find out more about one another, and take it from there.

Candidates invited for a second interview will be invited to undertake a short, remote design exercise.

We look forward to hearing from you.
