Job Description
Loose Joints is an award-winning independent publishing house recognised as a leading reference for contemporary and innovative photographic book culture, alongside running Ensemble, a specialist photography bookshop in Marseille.
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Press & Studio Coordinator to play an integral role in supporting the company’s day-to-day operations across press, communications, publishing administration and studio coordination.
Working closely with the directors, the successful candidate will help ensure that projects, communications and internal processes remain structured, consistent and efficiently implemented. This is a hands-on operational role requiring autonomy within a defined framework.
This position is offered as a CDI, 28 hours per week (Tuesday to Friday). The role is classified under the Convention collective de la Librairie (IDCC 3013) – Niveau IV (Employé qualifié). This position offers scope for increased responsibility over time within the structure of the organisation and in line with company development.
Key responsibilities include:
Communication & Marketing
- Supporting the coordination and implementation of press and marketing activity for new publications and related events.
- Maintaining press databases, coordinating outreach, compiling press materials, dispatching review copies and tracking coverage.
- Planning and implementing social media, newsletter and website communications in alignment with editorial direction, including drafting copy, creating imagery, maintaining content calendars and monitoring performance.
- Coordinating bookfair participation, book launches and promotional events, including collaboration with Ensemble’s team.
Publishing Assistance
- Providing administrative support across book production processes, including circulating production specifications, tracking timelines and liaising with collaborators.
- Supporting author communication, publication logistics and the preparation of publishing agreements and royalty documentation under director supervision.
- Assisting with drafting funding submissions, and applying to bookfairs and awards.
- Coordinating ISBN registrations, reference codes and complimentary copies.
- Supporting logistical arrangements for bookfairs and events.
General Administration & Studio Operations:
- Supporting the smooth daily running of the studio, coordinating with suppliers and service providers, and maintaining organised administrative systems.
- Providing general administrative support to maintain accurate office and accounting records across internal systems and spreadsheets.
- Coordinating weekly meetings and assisting with intern onboarding.
- Acting as a first point of contact for visitors and managing incoming communications and inquiries.
About you:
- Excellent written and spoken English required; strong French proficiency essential.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in publishing, photography, contemporary art or a related cultural sector, in operational, administrative or communications-focused roles.
- Strong interest in and knowledge of contemporary photography and photobook culture.
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple workflows, prioritise effectively and follow projects through to completion.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence drafting press materials, newsletters and marketing copy and liaising with a range of external partners.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and implement social media activity within an established editorial framework, with an awareness of current communication and digital marketing practices.
- Strong administrative skills and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate records, documentation and tracking systems.
- Strong proficiency in Google Suite / Excel; familiarity with Adobe InDesign and content scheduling tools is desirable.
- Comfortable working with production quotes, basic budget tracking and administrative documentation.
- Confident coordinating with artists, designers, printers and media professionals in an international context.
- Detail-oriented, tactful and solutions-focused, with a proactive and collaborative approach to problem-solving.
- Able to work independently while contributing positively within a small team structure.
