Job Description

We’re looking for a talented, passionate and proactive Junior Graphic Designer to join our team part time (0.6FTE)

About the V&A

The V&A is a family of museums dedicated to the power of creativity. Our mission is to champion design and creativity in all its forms, advance cultural knowledge, and inspire makers, creators and innovators everywhere. We share a 5,000-year-old story of creativity through exhibitions, events, educational programmes, digital experiences, conservation, research, and an ever-evolving national collection of over 2.8m objects spanning every creative discipline.

Our design studio has a portfolio of exciting projects including blockbuster exhibitions, temporary and permanent gallery displays. The studio is fast-paced, collaborative and hands-on, designing distinctive and meaningful experiences for the public.

It is an exciting time to join the V&A as we expand our family of venues with the opening of Young V&A in Bethnal Green (2023); V&A East Storehouse (2025) and V&A East Museum (2026) in Stratford.

What we’re looking for

The ideal person will be someone who can balance a range of projects and proactively collaborate with design colleagues in the design team, and wider teams – including marketing, curatorial, digital, retail, product and publishing – to encourage design coherence across multiple touchpoints.

You will design and deliver imaginative, inclusive and effective graphic and motion design for marketing campaigns, temporary exhibitions, permanent galleries, museum spaces, signage, wayfinding, print materials, and a range of other graphic and print assets, all adhering to our design and brand standards.

We’re looking for someone who wants to contribute to the ongoing development of our studio and keeps on top of developments in graphic and motion design, and identifies their relevance to the V&A. You have a passion for accessibility, sustainable design solutions, and will support the success of the Museum’s public programme, activities and goals across all V&A venues.

The ideal candidate will

1. Have experience working in a design studio or creative agency working both independently and under the direction of senior design team members.

2. Apply conceptual skills in creative approaches with a keen eye for type, and some evidence of ability to take concepts through to final designs execution and can demonstrate experience solving practical constraints.

3. Experience designing for communication and marketing; developing designs that work holistically across physical and digital.

4. Demonstrates knowledge of printing and graphic production processes, motion graphics and digital production.

5. Good skills in Adobe CS suite. Strong user of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and AfterEffects.

6. Good communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate design concepts and elements, collaborating with peers and clients.

7. Experience of managing multiple projects at one time, ability to prioritise tasks and respond to tight deadlines, especially given the part-time nature of the role.
