Job Description

About SPOKE

How it started ...

SPOKE began with one big idea:

Fit comes first.

But most brands can't deliver it. They churn through styles and spread themselves thin across lots of stores — leaving huge size gaps, which we all fall through.

It doesn't have to be like this, we thought. We could use e-commerce to customise each order — offering a flawless, personalised fit, but without the hassle and expense of bespoke.

So we did. In 2014 we set about building a digital menswear brand — focussing on aspirational men, and the things that really matter to them.

Starting with fit.

How it’s going...

In legwear, we discovered the perfect category — underserved and underloved — and full of rich opportunities to do things better.

But we didn’t stop there, we now have a full-fledged top-half collection — tees, knitwear, shirting, and even a tailored jacket.

In 10 years we’ve acquired more than 400k customers and sold more than a million pairs of trousers in the UK, the US and Europe. More than half of our customers shop again — 20% within 30 days — the best endorsement we could ask for.

We’re in the sweet spot. We have real traction, and money to invest behind our ideas — but we’re still young enough that you’ll see your impact every day.

You’ll point to SPOKE and say ‘I did that’. And it will feel great.

The Role

As our Digital Designer, it’s your job to support both the creative and web teams - working heavily on designing, maintaining and improving the SPOKE website as well as creating show stopping assets for marketing and paid media.

You will:

- Join our in-house creative studio, working across digital and marketing with a specialisation in UX/UI and web

- Turn out a wide range of paid static assets on time and on spec - from quick sharp meta ads, to creative carousels and video content

- Design emails, capturing unique brand tone within each

- Create organic social assets like reels, carousels, and stories to support marketing dates and campaigns

- Design exciting marketing collateral, working with the rest of the team to enforce 360 campaigns across all touchpoints

- Utilise UX and UI expertise to design and maintain the SPOKE website, including the development of the current design system, as well as landing pages for campaign launches, homepage changes, and seasonal updates

- Create functional, mobile-first designs, ensuring usability and performance across devices

- Work closely with developers and other stakeholders to design digital experiences that are intuitive, reusable, and ready for real-world implementation

- You will report to the Senior Designer – but of course you’ll need to work autonomously and independently. You’ll be part of the marketing team led by the Creative Lead but you will also work closely with the web team and your time will be managed between the two.

The Right Candidate

In an ideal world, you’d have ...

- Expertise in Figma is a must

- A strong understanding of design systems

- All the Adobe basics mastered

- UX / UI skills

- Someone who enjoys collaboration

- A balance of creative thinking and practical execution

- You're quick to ship static assets

- Your work is characterised by clean, organised asset management

- A natural eye for a look that is elevated and refined - and the aesthetics of layout

- Real attention to detail. You read the brief. You remember it. You don't need telling twice

- Appetite to learn - and a willingness to adapt your style to internal brand guides

- A portfolio that shows a real spike in web design and high impact digital content

- You should know your way around an ad

- Experience working within agile or sprint-based development environments

- An interest / experience with AI

- Genuine creative flair and eye

BUT ... more than anything else, we value horsepower, and hustle. We’re looking for:

- Commercial instincts - a great, natural sense for what matters, what moves the needle, and what is actually viable, from the perspective of our budget and our brand

- Great project management skills - the ability to plan work, track progress and keep the wheels turning

- A bias to action - a proven track record of getting things done, at high tempo

- A relentless drive to improve and optimise

- The standard startup toolkit: initiative, energy, a high degree of comfort in an unstructured environment, and a willingness to work across a broad range of roles

- Ideally, an authentic interest in fashion / style / menswear

Comp & Benefits

You can expect:

A competitive salary

25 days of holiday - and 1 additional for each year of service

Vitality health insurance

3% pension matching

3&2 working week - work from home (or anywhere else) 2 days per week

Perhaps the most generous 'trouser allowance' anywhere in the world*

*unproven, but highly likely

Workplace & Culture

We're an ambitious and driven lot. We're building a household name - and to do that, you need to jump in with both feet. So as a team we value Pace, Accountability, Distinctiveness and Humanity. We push ourselves - and you need to be ready for that.

But we're also passionate about creating a workplace that we all want to spend time in - a workplace characterised by a bit of humanity. Monday morning should feel good - and at SPOKE you encounter a culture that is collegiate, and friendly and supportive - as well as ambitious.

Of course we invest behind the usual suite of team building and bonding activities - whether that is learning to make pots, throw axes or tear around Thorpe Park on some spurious scavenger hunt. There's an annual mini-golf open, a grand prix, and once, a company Crossfit olympiad. On reflection, that was probably harder work than it needed to be, but ... we had fun.

Our office is, honestly, bloody lovely. It's a 30 second walk from Richmond station, so just 20 minutes to Waterloo - but also a stone's throw from the Thames, 5 minutes from Richmond Common ... and in the shadow of Kew Gardens.
