Job Description

Who We Are

Lateral is a yacht naval architecture and engineering studio operating at the intersection

of engineering, design and innovation. We work with designers, shipyards and owners to

develop some of the world’s most advanced and distinctive yachts. Our work is technical,

creative and highly collaborative.

Our purpose lies in the development and application of knowledge. Alongside the delivery

of today’s projects, we generate insight through innovation to inspire future yacht owners

to invest in ambitious ideas. Much of what we do is complex and often unseen. It demands

not only technical depth, but the deliberate application of creative intent to make that

depth understood and compelling.

To support our culture we foster a high-quality and inspiring working environment at our

base in Shamrock Quay, Southampton. The physical space serves to elevate our thinking

and our output.

Role Overview

This role is for someone who is excited by creative challenge in any form, whether

expressed through ideas, words, numbers, images or systems. We are looking for someone

who brings momentum, not someone who waits to be pushed.

This role is not aligned to a single department. It sits across Marketing, Business

Development, Innovation and project activity, creating part of the visual, written and datadriven

material that enables those functions to express their work clearly and compellingly.

Your output will be diverse.

One day you might be creating content for social media or developing a 3D model and

rendering to communicate a technical idea. Another day you might be shaping diagrams,

illustrations or structured data to support a proposal. You may find yourself embedded in

an innovation team, helping to frame and pitch a new concept to a client, then building the

narrative and materials to bring that idea to life.

You might develop presentations, editorial pieces, video content, or experiment with AI

agents and code to enhance and accelerate your output or to simply a data based task you

are working on. You may support the brand’s presence at a yacht show or industry event,

rethink part of a company presentation, elevate internal materials, or contribute creatively

to the atmosphere of the office itself. We even make things out of Lego and have a 3D

printer turning 2D ideas into physical form.

In short, you will be an engine of creative execution. Someone who turns intent into

artefact.

Who You Are

This role is defined by mindset, not a checklist of hard skills or software experience.

The most important capability in this role is the ability to work with people. You will listen

more than you talk. You will understand nuance, show empathy, and be able to navigate

different personalities and disciplines within a multi national, multi disciplinary team of

highly capable individuals. You will know when to ask questions and when to act. In this

role, human skills are not soft skills, they are core capability. We recognise that these skills

in all of us are imperfect and emergent. You will have the self awareness to reflect on how

you operate and see your development as a continuous lifetime activity. We will support

you and help you grow.

You will need resourcefulness. If you have read this description and feel intimidated by the

breadth of what is described, this job may not be for you. If instead you see a list of things

you could learn, and you instinctively know how to go and find the knowledge to acquire

those capabilities quickly and intelligently, then you are already demonstrating the mindset

we are looking for. You will not wait to be sent on a training course. You will use the tools

available to you, including AI, digital platforms and experimentation, to build skill in a rapid

and agile manner. You will not allow gaps in knowledge to become barriers to creative

intent.

You will need creativity. Not as decoration, but as a way of thinking. You know how to

make the technical compelling. You will experiment. You will be comfortable with ambiguity

and capable of shaping something coherent from it.

You will need tenacity. We aspire to be excellent, and excellence is often built on

unglamorous detail (aka the mundane stuff). Some of our work is inspiring and visible.

Some of it is repetitive, technical and unseen. Both matter. If you cannot tolerate the

discipline of getting the detail right, this role will frustrate you.

Finally, you will be the kind of person who picks up the rubbish from the floor even if you

were not the one who dropped it.

Your Future

Lateral is a company that continually evolves. We do not stand still. We grow with ambition,

but at a measured and considered pace. For us, growth is not about size. It is about

knowledge, capability and depth.

Your future here will not be handed to you in a predefined path. It will be shaped as much

by your own drive and contribution as by any formal structure we put around you.

Over time, this role is expected to evolve into a broader team focused on the delivery of

creative content across the business. This position carries the opportunity to help define

the standard from the outset and to grow at the forefront of that development.
