Job Description

Alchemy is a small, friendly team of experts with a reputation for designing and building world-class digital experiences. We pride ourselves on our strategy-led, performance-driven solutions and enduring client relationships, of which there are many.

We’re looking for a talented senior UX/UI designer to join us at an exciting time, reinforcing and adding value to our creative team as it grows. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in an agency setting, be well established and confident running projects on their own/taking ownership of their work. If you’re detail-oriented, collaborative and highly creative, someone who can make their mark and help shape the output of our agency, then this could be for you. You’ll get to design for a broad spectrum of clients and for projects delivered through various technologies, including Wordpress, Headless, Framer and custom builds.

We consider ourselves a great place to work, with a supportive team, varied client roster and an excellent work life balance. Evening and weekend work is actively discouraged, and hours are flexible to accommodate life commitments provided deadlines and standards don’t slip. We currently work remotely full time, but we meet for monthly socials, which can be anything from dinner to Oasis!

Responsibilities

  • Working across a range of digital design experiences, including websites, ecommerce and apps.
  • While predominantly UX/UI focused, you’ll also get to work on branding, graphic design, pitch decks and animation.
  • Creating exceptional digital products that exceed client expectations, demonstrating best practices, creativity, and commercial impact.
  • Translating client business needs, user requirements and technical constraints into intuitive and effective designs.
  • Taking creative ownership during the entire project lifecycle, from initial strategy meetings through to design and dev handover, ensuring that deadlines are met on time and within budget.
  • Communicating effectively with our internal development team to ensure your designs are implemented to a high standard and in line with your vision, or to make changes as required to improve cost effectiveness.
  • Working collaboratively with our other team members to execute world-class work, through constructive critique, iteration and guidance from our Creative Director.

Essential skills and experience

  • At least 5 years agency experience as a UX/UI designer with a strong portfolio showcasing creative range and your design thinking.
  • Advanced proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience working in/working knowledge of Framer.
  • Deep understanding of design systems, interaction design and user-centred design.
  • Strong wireframing skills and the ability to translate sometimes complex information architectures into usable, intuitive website structures.
  • Experience designing responsive experiences across multiple breakpoints.
  • Excellent communication skills – you can clearly articulate your thinking and describe your concepts both internally and directly to clients.
  • Experience leading projects and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • An understanding of HTML and CSS and how ideas might be implemented or designs executed in a final product.
  • The ability to effectively and creatively interpret and apply existing brand guidelines to digital products.
  • An excellent eye for typography, layout and hierarchy, with good awareness of current trends and industry-appropriate design language.
  • Detail oriented, great at problem solving and able to prioritise and multi-task.
