Job Description

Salary: £34,000 – £38,000

Contract: Permanent, full time

Location: Hoxton, east London. Hybrid, with 2–3 days a week in the office

Closing date: 9am, Monday 12 October

About the role

We are looking for a digital marketing manager to join our team. You will own a portfolio of client accounts, leading relationships, shaping strategy, and delivering work, as well as supporting business development for the agency.

This hands-on role sits in a two-person marketing team, alongside colleagues in website support, project management, and business development. You will move between strategy and delivery, and between client work and agency projects. You will have real ownership from the start and the opportunity to shape your role and work.

About HDK

HDK is a creative digital agency in Hoxton, east London. We build websites, run campaigns, and tell stories for arts, culture, and heritage organisations across the UK and beyond. Our clients include theatres, dance companies, museums, galleries, festivals, and heritage sites.

Responsibilities

Client relationships

  • Leading client meetings and being the main day-to-day contact for your accounts
  • Organising projects: scoping work, setting timelines, and keeping things moving
  • Building relationships with clients and understanding what matters to their organisations
  • Spotting opportunities to grow accounts and deliver greater impact
  • Working with freelancers and external partners, including designers, developers, and media teams
  • Keeping project tracking and client reporting up to date and visible

Marketing delivery

  • Developing digital marketing strategies for clients and defining clear benchmarks for success
  • Planning campaigns from start to end: thinking through to evaluation
  • Research and discovery: audits, audience research, and peer analysis
  • Creating content: copy, social posts, newsletters, and briefs for design and video
  • Running client social media channels, including scheduling and community engagement
  • Setting up, monitoring, and improving digital advertising campaigns
  • Regular reporting, translating data into actionable insights for clients

Business development

  • Coordinating and writing proposals and pitches alongside our business development lead
  • Tracking leads and keeping our pipeline current
  • Representing HDK at sector conferences and events
  • Contributing to and appearing on HDK’s webinars
  • Writing case studies and sector content that help us win work
  • Delivering HDK’s own marketing for our social channels, newsletter, and website content

What we are looking for

  • Communication: comfortable leading a meeting, making a call and saying what you think
  • Planning: able to plan a project or campaign and see it through independently
  • Strong writing: clear, quick, and adaptable to different tones of voice
  • Eye for detail: ensuring accuracy across your work (including data, judgement, research, and written language), and an ability to self-review as well as receive feedback from team members and clients
  • Problem solving: curious and self-directed; you pick up new tools by getting stuck into them
  • Managing priorities: organised enough to juggle several accounts and keep everyone in the loop
  • Collaborative: happy working closely with a small team and with external partners

You might come from an arts, culture, or heritage organisation in marketing, communications, or digital content. Alternatively, you might work agency-side or in-house elsewhere and want to bring that experience into this sector.

Sector experience is welcome but not required. We value a genuine interest in arts and culture.

Desirable but not essential

  • Social media management and scheduling: Meta (Facebook, Instagram, Threads) LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, other platforms such as Reddit / Pinterest / Bluesky, scheduling tools
  • Email and newsletter platforms: Mailchimp or similar
  • Digital advertising: Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads
  • Analytics and reporting: Google Analytics, Search Console, Data Studio etc.
  • Design and video tools, such as Canva
  • Project and collaboration tools: Asana, Slack, Google Drive
  • Website CMS: WordPress or similar
  • Briefing and managing freelancers
  • Managing budgets, invoices, and forecasting

How to apply

Send us your CV and your answers to these three questions:

  • Tell us about a marketing campaign or project you were involved in from start to finish. What were you trying to achieve, what part did you personally own, what did you do, and what was the outcome? Please focus on your own contribution.
  • Tell us about a time when you had to learn something new or tackle something unfamiliar in order to get a piece of work done. How did you approach it?
  • What interests you about working with HDK and with organisations in arts and culture?

Up to 250 words per answer.

Please complete this form to upload your responses by 9am, Monday 12 October.

Applications written primarily with AI can feel impersonal and share repetitive phrasing, which makes it harder for us to see why you would be a great fit at HDK. We understand you may want to use AI to support your application, such as organising thoughts or polishing grammar. However, we want to hear your insights in your own authentic voice and writing style.

We encourage you to apply early, as we review applications on a rolling basis and may invite candidates to interview before the advertised closing date.
